If it is the low groan of a car subwoofer that you want then you have come to the right spot…Nothing makes a car audio enthusiast beam more than the rich sound of car subwoofers. Sure, the tight twinge of treble through a tweeter is part of the equation, but throwing a low bass riff through sub woofers that don't crack is the real deal. Car subwoofers are not all created equal Oh, some say a speaker is a speaker. They know not what they say. Sure, most top brands such as MTX and high end Pioneers can be thrown into subwoofer boxes and sound just dandy. But, dandy is not what we are after here are we? A subwoofer needs to mellow out the tightness of the treble. The tweeter's job is to surprise. To sharpen things up. A tweeter and a subwoofer are like two brothers. The sub woofer's the strong, steady, older one. It puts up with the shenanigans of the younger sibling. But, when power is needed, the sub woofer's the fall guy. If this is all new to you here is a quick course A tweeter pushes out the higher frequencies. It is the treble sound. Blow a whistle or hear a soprano and you have heard what gets emitted from a tweeter. Typically tweeters are installed up front. The treble sound does not carry far so it needs to be the closest to the listener. Car subwoofers carry the low frequency, or the bass. All things "rich" come through the subs. Often they are installed in subwoofer boxes or enclosures. Words associated with a subwoofer are:
Lesson over... Subwoofer boxes and enclosures come in many different styles. From custom built do-it-yourself subwoofer boxes, to high end speaker box designs. If you are into building your own car audio system then there are helps (our buyer's guide has a list of manufacturers that give free tips and helps). If you are going to build a subwoofer box, just make sure you grab the proper dimensions for the size speaker you have. You also need to make sure your box is sealed and/or that you have proper air flow to support the sub woofers. While the size of the enclosure is not as important for a tweeter, the positioning is. Make sure it is not obstructed or positioned away from the listener. You want clear sound from a tweeter. Wiring and speaker design are crucial if you want the sound to be optimal. Throwing a system together just because it wears the name “kicker” does not ensure your music will sound good. Making a choice as to what brand you go with for speakers, may make your head spin. Some enthusiasts refuse to mix and match. They want everything by JBL. Others will pick Subzero for their car subwoofers and Pioneer for their tweeters. The car speaker reviews you read may influence your views. Well, that and what you have heard perform. Most people will do well with the major brands as long as they are properly installed. Just bear in mind that the installation can make or break car subwoofers. An average sub will sound alive in the proper enclosure. A poorly installed subwoofer will sound dead and muffled. Finding tweeters and car subwoofers on the Internet is now easier than ever. You can grab the major brands at discount prices.
