Speaker stands and other components finish off your speaker systemSpeaker stands are often the most neglected item in a stereo system or home theater. A fair amount of money is spent, as well as time, on the right speakers and amplifier. Yet, for some reason, the last few details such as wiring, subwoofer enclosures, and speaker placement are ignored. Moving sound through the room in an efficient manner is the goal. Speaker stands help the speaker do that. A good stand will not only provide airflow around the speaker, but also a stylish presentation for the surrounding décor. In other words, don't scrimp on the small, but important items! Other components important in speakers Below are some of the details and components that will help when finishing up your home stereo speaker system.
Wiring Wiring is a neglected item in home audio systems. If you are purchasing wireless speakers then this becomes a moot point. However, if you're not going wireless, then pay attention to the manufacturer specifications. One of the problems, with many speakers in home systems, is that the speaker is placed too far from the head unit with the type of wiring used. The farther a speaker is from its source of power/sound, the more resistance is produced. This calls for a different type of speaker wire. Connections A decent set of audio cables usually comes with new speakers. If not, you might want look at the audio cables produced by Monster. Monster Cable is well known for its production of 24 carat connectors. They also provide shielded and straight speaker wire. Speaker mounts Some people opt for speaker stands. They are quick and easy to use. However, other people prefer having the speakers mounted on the wall. Your speakers should come with a mounting kit. If it doesn't, you will need to grab one from your audio store, or your local Radio Shack. Subwoofer enclosures Again, most subwoofers will already come in an enclosure. If you buy a subwoofer without an enclosure then you will either need to build one yourself or take it down to your car/home audio store and discuss what you need with the staff. They should know all about producing a box for your home theater or stereo system. Know the system - what mixes and what doesn't Sure, you can combine components. Just be careful that your Bose system is compatible with your Sony or JBL. Sometimes, RCA connectors are different. Other times, the power is different. All this adds up to create a really great or a poor sounding system. Speaker wire to the amplifier needs to be checked if you are mixing brands and components. High end systems need high end finishing touches As was said earlier, most components come with a speaker set-up in order to mount and wire it. These include: wiring, mounting brackets, subwoofer enclosures, RCA connectors, and external power plugs (if need be). If these items do not come with your speakers, either contact the manufacturer or the merchant you purchased the speakers from. Your local audio shop can also outfit you with a custom application if needed. The one component that does add a bit of external style to your speakers is the speaker stand. Using the standard that comes with the speaker may not live up to your aesthetics. The material a speaker stand is made from varies. Anything from wood to brushed aluminum has been presented to the market. A good picture and description is about all that is needed to purchase a good stand. Dimensions and weight load are all standard in a description profile. This makes the Internet a good place to look for speaker stands.
